Kalona, IA | I think you might be misunderstanding what I'm trying to say. The emergence isn't at uniformly spaced as I would like to think it's capable of being and there are more doubles and skips then it should be. The monitor is reporting issues but it's totally inconsistent in it's monitoring. It will frequently say that some rows are planting well over 25% below desired pops. When digging behind those rows and observing emergence the pops are mostly there.
Because of the constant alarms going off in what is mostly "false" alarms I start to ignore it. With auto steer I spend more time watching the monitor then the field, but have come to not really believe what its telling me anyhow. In writing this out I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I will need to invest in more accurate row seed sensors. Being that I do conventional tillage, I tend to have a lot of dust and with a vacuum vs a blowing air planter, It seems to suck dust into the system vs blowing it out.
My seed bed is generally pretty consistent and smooth so my row units are operating pretty smoothly. The planter is running level as well. |
