Kalona, IA | Are the Wave Vision Sensors using different Technology that isn't as bothered by dust? I think that a LOT of my frustrations come from inaccurate readings to the point of not really believing a lot of the Alarms. I widened out the warnings to 15 or 20% before the alarms sound. That's way more discrepancy than I prefer but sometimes sanity has to prevail!
I've tried higher vacuums without seeing any noticeable changes. I closely inspect any of the mechanical parts for sealing and smooth movements.
I quit using any graphite products the last 2 yrs because I am using Biological powders that I thought were supposed to replace the need for graphite's. Maybe my meters are not running as smoothly as they should due to that?? I thought that I had more sensor issues when using both powders and so much powder buildup when the seed box was about empty to where I once even dumped out the not quite empty boxes out in the field to shut-up the alarms.
I checked out the faulty SRM's by switching it with another row and the problem followed the SRM thus eliminating the harness. Plus the new SRM's fixed the problem.
I have zeroed my Delta Force numerous times and it will mostly be in the Green but frequently it will come up with Yellow warnings and then I will verify it on the screen and it will go back to being quiet. Occasionally it will be in the red for a little and say that one of the "Weigh Bars" isn't working but then it will quiet down and go green again. I am Organic so my fields are pretty soft and uniform. I set it to Heavy Auto this yr to prevent sidewall collapse as it was pretty dry in the top 2". I generally plant corn 2.75-3" deep and beans 2.5-3" if trying to reach moisture.
Corn took 5 days to spike through and beans 6 days this yr.
Planting only takes 2 days on my small farm so I spend about as much time prepping the planter as planting. Switching from corn to beans takes several hrs and while I was doing that my Amish neighbor was steadily humming along with his simple but accurate JD 7000. Made me go, hhhmmm, maybe I should go back in time! I can't get my marker arms to work since using the Pro 700 and starting the field for the 1st pass with a 12 row gets kinda wiggly looking. I will then use a 90 or 270 degree heading for the rest of the field. Not a big deal when I used to spray, but since going back to cultivating, I end up cultivating out where the rows wiggle to much. Then weeds grow in those gaps. Guess I'm too picky! :)
