Do you have a GPS system that outputs shape files? If so there are programs that will expose the elevation data contained therein. Further one then uses a GIS program to visualize the data. I use a green (low) to red (high) coloration. Anyway... your eyes can deceive you and small ridges sometime hold back a lot of surface water.
