| We did too for somewhat similar reasons. Have all summer to grow something to meet a cows highest nutritional plane vs. watching the hay piles shrink at an alarming rate waiting for rain that never comes (exactly like this year). You can run into the occasional bad winter, but the calves are big enough to tough it out and using a creep pen helps. A dry cow in the second trimester in the summer doesn't take a lot. | |
