Saronville NE
35 yrs ago in our area wasnt a yard thst didn't have hogs or cattle on it. Lots of dirt lot hogs. Small 30-50 hd cow herds or guys who ran 50 hd of calves or yearlings on grass. Pretty well non exist now. Hogs went first. Still have 1 neighbor w dirt lot hogs. Then $7 corn hit all the pasture got tore up and put pivots on was end of most the cattle. Within 10 mile radius id estimate 2k acres grass tore up and idk how many honesteads gone.

Now its handful of guys with 100-400 hd cows pretty well all ho yo kansas or sandhills for grass. Then occasional 30 hd herd left.
Besides commercial feedyards im basically only one feeding cattle.

Had a 85 yr ol guy tell me in salebarn this winter says do you realize yr the youngest buyer here? Says in 10 yrs most the guys bidding will be dead. Im not young anymore im 51. Really makes you wonder what will happen in future are we going to have any young guys involved? My son loves cattle hed much rather mess with cattle then sit in a tractor but is there any hope?
