NE Iowa | Admittedly I have very spoiled cows that are typically over fed. So I am used to them usually being very content and well behaved. This week and also the same time last year I have noticed they act hungry no matter how much pasture I give them. Half my cows are being rotated every two days through some 50/50 grass and alfalfa fields. The other half are being rotated about once a week through some well fertilized cool season grass pastures. Both groups beller and follow me around when I check them and stand at the gate even though they are belly deep in grass. They are well trained to electric fence but they have even been getting through my one strand division fences this week. Is the grass growing so well that nutritionally it is lacking something? Is the grass too rich that it is passing through them too quickly? I thought about giving them a bale of hay but it seems like a waste when the grass is growing way quicker then they can graze it. Any thoughts? Assuming in a couple weeks it will fix itself when the growth slows or gets more mature. | |
