Subject: RE: Beams failing in hog barn

NC Iowa
Altenburg construction is the company I got to watch do it. They remove a small portion of the sidewall which is only 2 or 3 2x6s. They have a special machine that will fit into the barns and run on the old slats. Heavily weighted in the back end to help with pulling slats. They pull approximately 20 to 30 feet of slats at a time. Then pull beam. Somebody in a track skid steer is on the outside and hands everything in to the machine. 2 slats at a time as stated above, they are heavy. Set new beams, set new slats and then start pulling more old slats and beams.

Yes it is fun to watch and those guys are good at what they do. They walk right across a 20 foot beam above a pit full of manure and don't blink an eye at it. I think they did the 1200 head barn in a day and a half at most
