nw NC | We made ground piles several times years ago when we had more silage than the concrete stave upright silos would hold. Covered the piles with black poly film and securely held it down with tires on top and sand piled along the edges. We opened the piles in late January , loaded it onto silage wagons and blew it into an upright. Silage had kept beautifully in the piles. We immediately started feeding it to the dairy herd. No difference in milk production so I assume there was no deterioration of feed quality. Your experience in moving it to another pile or bunker may be different. Any way to bag it instead of packing into a bunker? Bag might keep quality better. | |
