West Central IA
I was actually responding to the guy who was feeding candy, cardboard and other "feed stuffs" that normaly are not considered feed grown on the farm. I do hay, cornsilage, forage sorghum and cornstalks. I will feed baleage by itself in a feeder. Cornsilage and processed hay in tire bunks. And stalks in feeders or ground with hay to feed with silage in tire bunks. I have all old equipment, chopper, wagons and skid steer. I use a Kelly Ryan feeder wagon or just dump into a meals on wheels to feed. I did buy my own Haybuster 2650 3 years ago to process my feed stuffs. It is slower than the grinder guy, but I can do it every week or two for fresher feed. The biggest thing is with the haybuster if your hay was not put up perfect and there is some white mold on it, a lot of it will be knocked off so the hay will smell better and the cows eat it more readily. Not that all my hay is that way, but sometimes you may have an issue with a bale or 2. My silage is on a pile on the ground, but I do cover it and it works real good for me but usually feed it up by late spring and then switch to all hay, stalks and maybe some distiller grain to put with it.
