If you want to save seed( and I do) then you need to get the govt involved. Contact your legislators. Do you think the companies will allow you to save seed absent govt regulations? 

Seed companies grow seed in Mexico, and South America(more now in Mexico) because they can do off season production and multiply varieties that they're short of here or that they got more orders than planned, whatever. It's generally a win for U.S. farmers, actually. It shortens their decision time frame and allows us more newer varieties faster. 

Absent regulations we tend to, I dunno, kill people, and cause environmental and ecological disasters. The amount of regulation that we have here absolutely pales in comparison to the UK and Europe.
