| Ok Guys,
Here is an update on what was going on. We took the whole valve assembly off and found a piece of broken material that had the lower poppet raised off its seat.
The big indicators that directed us towards the problem were the following.
- The leak-off was quite substantial and continuous.
- Hydraulic pressure was leaking off through the sump return line that dumps into the top of the housing. We diagnosed this by doing a cold start, worked the hitch up and down a bit to generate heat, and identified the warm pathways. The return hose where the valve dumps the cylinder oil back into the sump was warm to the touch.
- The cylinder seals were good. The fittings in the top of the lift cylinders remained cool, indicating there was not a problem with oil pushing past the cylinder seals. We later verified this fully by installing 1/4-turn ball valves on the lift ports of the cylinders. The cylinders held height when the valves were closed.
- Leak off was occurring with the tractor off. Meaning all electrical and hydraulic system control systems were not contributory to the issue.
But now the BIG question. What are the origins of the metal chunk?
