Western Oregon | When? Since I retired at 55 because of health issues. Wife is a cheap skate. My fault, I told her no honey-do-list. Also in 1992 for 2 years when I had a polio relapse at 37. Lowest paid job, from 8 to 12. Dad made my 2 brothers and I 1/2 owners in farm partnership, said it would save on taxes, never got a dime and the bank loans kept getting bigger. I left home at 12, lived in a 8'x12' chicken coop. Rented 19 acres for my homestead, bought 2 years later, paid off in 3 years.
Years later when Dad and brother wanted to borrow money from FmHA, they found the partnership contract and wouldn't lend them money until little brother and I signed off. I said $10,000 each, settled for $7,500. I was 18, little brother was 15. Little brother bought a brand new Chevy LUV pickup and drove to auctioneer school in Montana right after he turned 16. I bought a 2 year old 454 IH tractor, new 990 haybine, new 430 IH all-twine baler and a new New Idea wheel rake....James | |
