Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS | Never had a “paying job” until after high school. First year of college I quit my bus driver job, took my last paycheck and made a down payment on a Stihl 031AV chainsaw. Started cutting firewood on dad’s land. Mostly cleaning up ditch banks, etc. $40/cord. Went away to college and worked for local farmer $2/hr. Walmart for whatever the wage was in 1980-81. Car dealership parts runner for whatever the minimum wage was in 1988-89. Truck driver for anywhere from $.125/mile to $.25/mile. Now on salary so pay is the same regardless of hours worked.
Since becoming an adult I’ve never been without a job for more than two weeks when I was actually looking for one. IMHO people who say they can’t find a job aren’t looking very hard. They maybe can’t find a good job but if they’re willing to work they can find a job. Some job is better than no job. If you can’t get the job you want, take the job you can get and while you are working keep looking for a better job. |
