Subject: 2012 8310RT steering issue with auto steer

NECIL
Not sure if this belongs here or in Machinery Talk but here goes. We have an 8310RT that we’ve had for quite some time now and we run it on the grain cart and the strip-freshener. We initially didn’t notice it much but last spring it was a definite problem we noticed with the steering. While auto steer is engaged the tractor seems to be seeking the line constantly. You can feel the tractor jumping to one side like it’s trying to get back on the line. We were told that we needed to make adjustments in the auto steer screen to get it to stay on line more and seek less. We made all kinds of adjustments and nothing seemed to fix the issue. The dealer even came out and spent hours trying to calibrate the steering under the tractor which really didn’t help and just cost us those hours we should have been in the field. The same problem this spring only we also were trying to use autopath so the planter could follow the strip-fresheners path. With autopath engaged on the planter it tried to follow the RT’s path exactly with every wiggle the 8310RT made with the freshener. So we ended up turning the autopath off on the planter or followed the fall strip bar’s line which ran straight. We run 9-10 mph with the strip-freshener.

With all that, my questions are: 1. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to remedy it? 2. Is there a sweet spot setting anyone has used to get these 8RTs to run true and straight without seeking the line like this one is. 3. Is this a problem with the steering valve that we need to replace it with a new one?

Just beyond frustrated with how it’s running. I can make adjustments to the numbers on the auto steer page to help make it not as noticeable but it still does it. You notice it when you use the auto steer with the cart also.
