RR Valley, ND; MN native | "I'd bet you could shut it off and the downstairs heat would keep the upstairs plenty warm."
Yup.
Farmhouse at the farm was built about 1912-14. Poor insulation upstairs. Like OPs house, it has hot water baseboard heat. Right now, its unoccupied and I keep the downstairs set at 55, upstairs at 45.
I have a sheet of foam board over the stair well to slow down heat loss through the upstairs. This made a huge difference in how much LP for the winter. From my remote monitors, the upstairs temp tends to be about 5 deg colder than downstairs. Upstairs heat seldom comes on unless its really cold like near 0 out.
Now, there is no bath upstairs so that may be a concern near outside walls, etc. for OP. | |
