We recently built on a bedroom / master bath to our old 3 story farmhouse. Previously our bedroom was upstairs but old age made getting up & down our stairs, steep & narrow, difficult. House has hot water baseboard heat installed in the early ‘69d. Upstairs has its own thermostat so heat temp can be set differently than downstairs which has two zones

As winter nears I’m wondering what temperature would be best to keep the upstairs. There is a 1/2 bath upstairs as well as 3 bedrooms & another room that the bedrooms all connect to. I’m thinking 50* but where others that have unused living space keep the temperature.

Will add, insulation was upgraded in the mid ‘90zs and as part of our remodeling the house was resided this summer, steel, & a 1” layer of tyveck (sp?)was added before the new siding was added.

TIA,
boog

Monitor the room regularly for awhile when you have the temperature set lower and the outside ambient gets colder. If it is too cool you will land up with moisture problems and mold.
