This confuses me the most, what is the branding, if it doesn't have an Allison, why is it tagged as such? I'm not that familiar with GM and what changed, I just knew the new 10spd was not an Allison product.

GM sold Allison sometime around the bankruptcy.

GM continued to buy transmissions and designs from Allison, along with the branding.

The 10 speed originally stated out as an Allison design, Ford and GM bought the rights to it, Ford made some changes and GM made some changes independently of each other and put them into production.

Supposedly the real Allison 10 speed is a good transmission, but the design changes GM and Ford made are what make it unreliable.
