SW Iowa | I'm disabled and no longer drive. Our County Public Health Dept. helps me with getting groceries, my mail and house keeping. Nice gals and nothing but good to say about them. But they are not allowed to give me rides to DR Appts.
They have started hiring Lyft drivers. They must all come out of the Omaha, NE. area. So that's about a 30 minute trip one way to here. I've had 10 different drivers so far. Of the 10, only 1 could speak English. They were all polite, had late model, clean cars and seemed to be decent drivers. No complaints except they understand no English.
Last ride was to my local DR office. In my small town and about 1/4 mile from my house. It was only for a blood draw, which only takes 15-20 minutes. Health Dept. sets up my ride with instructions to wait and take me back home. Tried to ask the driver if he would wait for me. He just smiled and nodded his head. Obviously did not understand and was gone when I went outside.
Had to call Public Health and have them line up another Lyft to take my back home, a 5 minute drive at most. I waited another hour for that ride to come from Omaha and get me home. There should be some sort of minimum amount of English test for them to work in this country. | |
