The difference is the heft and spring tension of the shanks. The 512 is much heavier allowing it to go deeper. The 512 is a great tool as you can always shallow up the shanks if you want a bit less disturbance or go deep if thats what you need.

My opinion I would look more at upgrading to a vertical tillage tool of some flavor and ditch the disc.
