Subject: RE: FeederHouse chain with plastic slats?

S-C Manitoba, Canada
I have used harvest services plastic chain for a couple thousand hours on new holland cr's. I like them but they do have real consequences vs steel.

Pros (plastic)
Much less sprocket and chain wear, like up to double
A little less feeder floor wear
Quieter
Don't wreck anything if they go through the machine
Don't take permanent bend which twists chain

Cons
A bit less aggressive feeding. I mainly notice this when it is both humid and green stemed. 95% of the year it is no different though, but the toughest 5% of the year is a bit worse.
Slats break easier
Seems like the feeder chain will jump a little easier, less, slats and more flexible means it can get out of time
Not stocked dealer parts, the chain bolt holes are not a standard width (dumb) and replacement slats are several days away. I usually finish each year missing a couple and deal with it in off-season.

This is my findings, running 2 identical machines with 3300 sep hours, one always stock, the other has had harvest services chains for last 2k hrs
