| How old of a machine? If it's 2014 or older, more than likely a snap ring has popped out it's groove that locks the shift fork to it's shift rail.
Here's some pictures of one I did awhile back. Same problems as your description....wouldn't back up and would only got forward in first range. This snap ring is for F2/R1 synchro. Sometimes reverse would work, sometimes it wouldn't. On this one, the snap ring fell out and the shift rail moved so much that the detent interlock came apart. Believe it or not, a CVT transmission can get locked in two gears at once...not a good deal.
You will see that I drilled a hole in the shift fork/shift rail and installed a double roll pin to lock them together...that's what CNH did in 2014 or so.
