Bunker Hill, IL | I’m trying to decide what I should do to upgrade my planter tractor without spending a fortune.
I’ve got a 16-30 1770 with fertilizer. I have pulled it 2 years with my 7130 premium mfwd with duals tuned to 170 horsepower. This has worked, but it’s really pushing the tractor past its limit in my opinion, and struggles on hills and tougher ground especially.
I also have a 7210 2nd magnum which is in the same boat less the MFWD.
I’d like to upgrade the magnum for something that will work well on the planter and grain cart. The magnum is a poor cart tractor because it’s short and the air filter severely limits rear visibility.
My planter has vacuum, plus hydraulic downforce, hydraulic generator, and hydraulic fertilizer pump all on one circuit. So I need modern hydraulics.
I’m looking at an 8940 magnum but I don’t know that its hydraulics would handle continuous use to that extent?
I’m also looking at low-ish hour Deere 8000 series. I’d ideally like something 2000+ model year, so I’m looking at maybe an 8110 to 8130 series tractor. I imagine any of these tractors will handle that sort of hydraulic demand?
