I like to go at a bit of an angle to the old corn rows. If you are running the stock smooth cast closing wheels, an upgrade to an aftermarket notched closing wheel would be helpful, especially if it's just a touch too wet. The Deere drills have no problem cutting through residue--they can almost plant into concrete. Where they fall down is closing the seed trench.
