Central ND | On a CR9070, when you fold the hopper down on the auger side. Above the elbow along the main beam on top of the pivot there's like 6 big bolts. Loosen those. Then under the beam around the front of the elbow, inside the hopper, if that makes sense, there's a draw bolt you can tighten to lift and support the auger more. You want the auger just very lightly sitting in the cradle. At least that's how it is on a 9070.
We were kind of experiencing the same thing as we didnt learn about the adjustment until we tore it apart. But at that time we were replacing the vertical auger and I think we dropped like 6".
I would bet the very top of your vertical auger liner might starting to crinkle under the thick plastic wear ring. IHLE/CNH Reman sells just a ring of steel for repairing the top if you dont need the whole liner. Our elbow and plastic ring was fine.
We had to disassemble a lot of the left side of the hopper to do it.
This is on a 9070. Your 9040 might be different.
