Today emptied small 21’ bin. Lindsay The door is similar to picture. Inside there is a 1.5” wide band for strength on 2 bolts. *removable to gain easy access* as no intermediate sump. I can only remove top 3 door slide in panels. Maybe 15” high, but 30” wide *WAG*. When younger, agile, half my current weight. No big deal. Even now getting in, set up sweep, clean in front of door, slide out panels, remove cross, strength bar so door does not split, easy exit. But solo. I decided I was not positive I could safely get out of bin. Plus likely need 2x trips as corn would fill center sump as I slog thru with sweep, motor, cord.
So I had to bother neighbors 20 yr old to come over for 15 minutes. ;(
My thought. I have some old stirrator down augers. With bearings. If I put a center chunk breaker in bin. Weld plate with bearing just next to door. Say a foot above air floor cut Á hole for shaft to stick out. Then angled down to center about 11’ long. Bearing both ends. Weld old 1/2 socket to shaft. So cordless impact could go on? I only needed corn Á foot lower than I easily could with broom.
The 2”? Auger would not move much. Maybe even drill could turn it? I think I have another one of those chunk breakers somewhere. I put first one in last week. Not sure why. Guess because I saw it in shed.
Idea how high door is.
Ya know, I think that's a great idea! I've got a 22' Behlen where the unload is not quite the opposite side of the bin from the door and only the center sump. Talk about ppp on my part when I put it up! Some sort of weather proof seal around the shaft where it comes out of the bin, maybe lash up a hydraulic motor to drive it. Heck, might be able to lay your sweep next to it so you wouldn't have to carry it in when you want to use it. Anything beats climbing up to the roof, contortions myself to get through an equally poorly planned narrow door and offset ladder to shovel away from the door! |
