Had similar experience. Went to the parts counter to pickup probably $1,500 worth of parts. Asked parts guy if he could give me torque specs to install said parts as it's somewhat critical to the repair.
Parts guy (good guy) says sure and calls the sister location service department as they do more steiger stuff. I can hear the service guy tell the parts guy "it's classified" and ends the conversation. Ordered a service manual after that.
Went to Cat dealer service desk years ago to ask about a repair. Guy asks if I'm buying the parts from them? I said yep. He proceeds to print off the section of the service manual I need/ give me the updated part numbers/ tell me what else to look for while I'm there/ and give me the part numbers for the specialty tools I need. Bought the parts and tools from them and couldn't have been happier.
Local red dealer is very picky about that type of stuff too. Bearings come to mind. I needed a bearing right then and they didn’t have it. It was for something old so they actually pulled out the paper parts book. I asked for the crossover number that I could see listed in the book, may have been hand written but I can’t remember. He said I couldn’t have it. He turned his back long enough that I flipped the book around and got the number before he saw me. He comes back to the counter grinning because he knew what I did. Went ahead and ordered one from him then went down the road to get one right then to get me back up and running. |
