I agree that the VFD is the most flexible design once its setup. There's an added benefit of greater control options also using the dryer controls. Also ramp up and down speeds can be a plus depending on whether or not there's a soft start on it currently.
Would need a new motor for sure though, at least 3 phase motors typically last longer.
How would you go about getting this auger to turn slower?
