Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | Yes, using a code with the Variety name could be done at planting time. You might affix a letter behind the actual variety name to indicate the fertilizer treatment. Then at harvest time, the automatic variety change procedure could be used. The yields for the various combinations would then be separate and make analysis easier.
Having a map or flags for the different fertilizer treatments would be necessary so that you create an appropriate modified Variety name when planting.
I'm not certain if you could use the fertilizer map at planting time to determine which fertilizer band you are in to help confirm what you should use for a modified variety name. This might be possible if they were in the same year. I have not tried showing maps from previous years while performing an operation, I regularly use the current year's planting map as a reference when harvesting for striking through for new strips in corn.
This works well for me since we plant 24 and harvest 8. The planting map allows me to pick the left, center or right set of 8 so that I'm never harvesting on the "guess row" and have a full set of 8 for the last pass of a strip.
