You can put that motor on a VFD, but you have upsize the drive, usually by double. A few manufacturers can go smaller but they are quite pricy. But if you have any issues with stalling, turning the motor too slow will increase the issue. I would try going bigger on the driven pulley and smaller on the drive pulley first. Most of the common supply houses have pulley calculators.
