While I wouldn't mind MCOOL in the least, the conservative in me says this is a good move and is as far as it should go.
If consumers want US beef, they will search it out and hopefully have a trustworthy label to go by. And if enough people want US beef, the market will respond and eventually more US labeled beef will be on the shelves.
As a beef producer, you sound like a packer, because that is what they argued last time MCOOL was in effect. Also, you do realize there are 4 companies who control 90%+ of the market and all label all their products as "product of usa"?
Everything else we have, even the toilet paper, says where it came from, why not beef as well? |
