| What sectors are not important for national security though? It was the repurposing of factories into war production factories that allowed the western world to produce the massive amounts of products necessary for success during WW II. Having factories gutted and moved to foreign lands means that the infrastructure, tooling, and skilled work force will no longer exist when it becomes needed.
I understand what you are saying but I don’t think many realize how necessary a home grown skilled workforce and factories and tooling that can be repurposed is in supporting a war. We’ve gotten used to continuing life largely like normal while at war because the wars have been very localized for many years now. It will be a very different world if it really hits the fan. We will not be able to just order what is needed from China off of Amazon. We will need a major shift to locally sourced products in virtually all sectors to avoid being at a manor disadvantage in a future all out war scenario.
