One fact is we are the only county in the world that feeds high energy rations to beef. ( well not quite true Japan does it for a specialty market). All the rest are grass fat. Having said that we have developed a strong demand for beef (especially hamburger) in this country. I’ve eaten grass fat in other countries and will prefer our American beef. I doubt that at the end of the day we will eat much grass fat South American beef. But we do need some for hamburger blending. As far as Trump politicizing the price, that’s all it is but it usually takes somebody of influence off the cuff remark to cause a reversal
