SWMN
Averages are made of extremes. In southwest MN, many many farms are having record yields in both corn and soybeans. We are also coming off of one of the worst yields we ever had last year. Jackson county MN yields in 2024 were 164 for corn and 43 for soybeans. On a normal year we strive to top 200 and 60. This year corn is anywhere from 230-250 and soybeans are in the 60s and 70s. Basis is horrible and continues to get wider. Piles of corn everywhere. I know from personal experience last year that it sucks to have poor yields locally when surrounding states are doing great. Remember that the world is bigger than your backyard, and many farmers with good yields are keeping their mouth shut right now. Will the final yield be lower than what was printed in August? Probably, but I don't think it will be as low as many people are saying it is.
