I would just mention (in calm words)at the beginning of the day that you need to get the soybeans done before the weather changes, so it may run later if it isn't wet. Also mention that your parents are free to quit earlier if they feel it's necessary.
However, after seeing a previous post you made that your dad wanted you to have interests outside of the farm, his thoughts may be along those lines. There actually is much more to life than farming. Maybe your dad has experienced things going south when trying to do late nights. You seem to reference your dad "being from the city" a lot, like you feel it's a negative. It's just a fact of where he grew up. You're 28 - find something else to enjoy besides farming. Maybe that is really what your dad wants for you is that you seek other hobbies/pasttimes.
And don't pit your mom to be against your dad. Maybe that isn't what you are doing, but it reads to me (in this post and another) like it is.
My husband has a saying "Always remember those who came before you". Your dad came before you and obviously had a hand in making farming possible for you. Show appreciation for that.
See the issue is my dad has only been out late once when we cut wheat till 2 am but wheats isn’t isn’t as bad as soybeans. Don’t get me wrong stuff can still break. But it’s just I have a drive that never quits and I’m happy. |
