for edibles, do you tilt the cutter bar quite a bit forward? I know the book for the 640fd calls for it to be flat in an orientation that puts the pressure on the poly to aid in floating.
Compared to the auger 635 hydraflex, the 640fd can run quite a bit worse conditions for wet soil it seems.
