Subject: Suggestion for the fine design folks @ Thunder Creek fuel trailers

Chebanse, IL.....

The Thunder Creek fuel trailers are a great product. They always seem to ready to go to work for most farmers.

However, it seems to me they could relocate the factory 7 pin wiring junction box. With all the amount of free space they have inside the gull-wing door accessible cabinet areas, why would they choose to bury the plastic, tightly crammed with wires, junction box underneath the cabinet and within the channel iron frame? We recently noticed that our TC battery was not being re-charged by the tow vehicle, as it had originally. 7 pin 12V output checked good on the truck. I couldn't find any type of wiring schematic in the OM. I called Thunder Creek support and got an immediate answer....great service! The "charge wire" in the frame buried junction box has a diode on it that prevents feedback to the tow vehicles, since some vehicle's dashboards aren't tolerant of feedback. That's never been our case though. Support person said it's not uncommon for the diode to fail, preventing flow to the battery. He hinted that some owners had wired around the diode if they were sure the tow vehicle wouldn't suffer. Or, order a new diode and replace it.

So, this "some owner" wired to bypass the diode. But, it meant laying under the frame and working in very cramped area. I looked at the area immediately above the junction box in the cabinet and it looked like there was room to mount a 21" tv in there if you wanted. Why isn't the junction box up there making it easily accessible to everyone. Much easier to diagnose and repair if necessary. And, it would be kept out of the water or other crap from the road. Let me add, there wasn't enough free cable to unbolt the box and drop it down out of the channel. But you would've still been working underneath.

Oh...there was one other thing I noticed immediately that you can see in the photo. This TC has the much-hated DEF tank (tank is hated....DEF is!) mounted above the junction box area. Any leakage or spillage from the DEF filling or nozzle runs down on the...........wiring junction box. Do you foresee a problem there?
