West Central, MO | You mentioned something that we haven't been doing--stand counts to see what our populations actually are coming out at. This is something we're planning on doing this year.
We've been setting our drill pops at what our seed reps have been telling us the last 2 years (actually a little less after consulting with the local ext. agronomist--we realize they're trying to sell more seed). But because it's been getting so late the last few years, populations have been over 200K by the end of planting.
We also weren't considering moving to gps yet, just a 4 row shutoff for now.
It sounds like we need to investigate these SI belts? How many of you guys would still go with 30" rows into mid-late June for beans? We've been told by our different seed reps and local agronomists that the later it gets the narrower the rows and higher the pops should be.
