Subject: RE: Planter downforce monitoring system

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
We did something similar but since we were using an Ag Leader system for other planting functions, I purchased a used ISO down force module. It connects as a VT terminal so I assume it could be used with another brand but some type of display would be needed.

Mine has 6 weigh bars spread around on a 24 row Deere 1770NT. Our original plan was to use it to aid in adjusting the down force springs that came with our planter. We use very conventional tillage and have unit mounted residue managers which add weight to each unit. After observing the readings from the down force monitor we concluded that we needed UP force more than DOWN force.

We went with a combo manually adjusted UP/DOWN force arrangement using air. The operator manually determines whether to use UP force or occasionally DOWN force. Whether this was economically wise is debatable.
