swmn | Definitely do it (grid sample and VR spread) once on all your acres, preferably prior to corn. It at least gives you a good idea as to the amount of variability in your fields and lets you correct it to some extent.
The bigger question for me is how to handle subsequent applications after the initial VR spread. Go back to a blanket spread? VR spread once more based on the initial grid sampling and then back to a blanket spread? The VR upper and lower limits for each product would come into play as well. | |
