| Bought 6 cows just before Covid, accidently picked a flighty one, (High-strung Holly) probably has some Holstein in her, first wanted 100 feet between me and her, now she will let me walk within 6-8 feet of her, she would come into the chute at 100mph now down to only 40 or so. Interesting part is she had twins one year and we grafted one on another very calm cow, Holly's calf was pretty alert and skittish, other twin that had been handled alot during the first week or so was quite tame at first, would let you walk up to her and pet her in the pasture for the first few weeks, but towards fall she started to exhibit some of her mothers traits, but no where as pronounced. I would say it is a genetic trait or tendency with substantial situational influences. | |
