Years ago I tried Lipoflavinod (sp?) It did seem to quiet the ringing after taking it for a while. It also caused joint pain, so no more of that.
My ringing was constant for years. Now it can come and go. Annoying as heck when it's completely silent. Takes a bit to get used to. No clear trigger to make it worse or better.
No hearing aids yet, but am getting close. Same issue as you with back ground noise.
