Subject: RE: ? For no til soybean growers

I'm in SC Nebraska. No-till for the last 15 years or so. It works great for me, but I'm sure there are areas where tillage is better. If there are successful no-tillers/reduced tillage operators in your area/soil type, you should be good. I prefer no-till to one pass for many reasons, one being that residue is usually easier to get thru when it is standing as opposed to a flat mat of stalks. But in your current situation, it looks like you had pretty good corn and the resulting level of residue. If it were me, to get more consistent seed placement, I would tend to be aggressive with the planter furrow openers if you have some that can handle the residue. Straight disks are probably a no go. There is a balance of course. Don't want to be too aggressive and end up listing. If your furrow openers can't handle the residue, I'd probably disk the field again or just slot plant into the residue. Of course, I would want to have an option of a pivot pass or a good chance of rain after planting if the result is not great. A lot of factors to consider.
