Subject: RE: Non-GMO corn

West-Central IL
In west central Illinois you probably have options for a river premium, depending on how west you are?

We've grown double stacks since they first came out, but then we've also never Not grown non gmo corn.

Always have had some of both. Usually at least 80% nongmo every year now.

We do not have variant root worm so that is something to consider.
Occasionally you have corn borer damage, maybe we're used to seeing it slightly, but to be honest the levels are staggeringly less then the flights and damage from 25 years ago.

I don't think the weed control is challenging if you're willing to use a pre and a post program.
Used to try and get away with 1 pass of corvus and didn't like the possible late breaks, two pass has been better for nongmo.
I've never sprayed roundup in corn anyway even on the double stack acres. Have used several products over the years but
Last season or two was bicep II magnum pre
Followed by Acuron flexi/Atrazine post.

I buy from wyffels, pioneer, and even Dekalb.
Dekalb haven't changed in years numbers are getting old, pioneer is reliable and occasionally brings new ones, and wyffles is hitting it out of the park with yields and brings several new hybrids each year it seems.
All ours goes to the mississippi for premium, over the years had been anywhere from .25-.60

We don't plant borders to something else, but make sure your neighbors or their spray operators know what you have. Around here it's very common so nobody assumes.
We never harvest borders into a nongmo bin without testing it. We either take two rounds off and haul in to elevator for test, or since we grow both we dump in one of our traited bins for the borders. Half the time (or more) the borders will pass the elevator test anyway.
We've found that any road or even grass lane is enough to be safe.
Also plant date, (flowering time) difference between your neighbor, if a week or two, has been safe.
Email is good if needed.
