Back in the day we used to run a Case ih 14 ripper 5 shank, 30” spacing) on all acres in the fall. That is not a case ih in your picture but it looks very similar. We did not have coulters. We used the straight points all the time and added covering boards for corn ground. We used about 180hp 2wd with 20.8 duals and I think 1000lbs of extra weight on the rear wheels. It worked ok but if you hit a tough spot the front end came off the ground and you had to raise the ripper up this negating the point of ripping it. Adding weight to the front of the tractor helped a lot.
