Latimer, Iowa (north central) | Not to be that guy but what does your manure management plan say? Seems some are recommending an additional 100 lbs. 340 unit of N?? How does that cash flow and what does it do for the environment. If the crop is not using the N it is going somewhere.
I do believe hog manure needs some supplemental N but should be applied at rates needed for your P and K. Is more efficient use of your fertilizer $ to not over apply everything else to try and get enough N.
For reference we have multiple sites that will average between 50-55 lbs per 1000. I apply at 2200-2400 gallon per acre and sidedress 75 units as 32% the first week of June ish with a 225 yield goal.
Edit, I forgot a zero on 1000. Also agree with Joel, Paul, and Kooiker below. A raven flow controller on the tank valve helps but is still not perfect. We apply all our own manure and I know we do a better job then a custom crew with where tanks run out, adjusting speeds, and adjusting distributor for even flow.
