Hannibal, MO | As far as ethical I see nothing wrong with it. You’re not trying to delete anything or work around anything. You’re just trying to repair. If OEM made economical ways to plug into their equipment you would have no problem buying it from OEM. But in most cases they don’t.
We bought a used Snapon pro link edge scanner for semis. By far not the cheapest option but have already saved enough on tow bills because of derated and fixing simple sensors same day to pay for it. All the truck shops around here are more than happy to give us educated advice on repairing stuff. Most have more work than they know what to do with and have been that ways for years.
