South Dakota | Before I went to mostly no-till I liked double disking with the same disk you have in the fall and planting right into it in the spring. One pass with the disk left the field rough for the planter to ride. I used to think the stalk broke down well and had less tie up for nutrients. Now my brain tells me no-till is just is as good and the field is smoother and it seems easy to put the bean in at a consistent 1 3/4" depth with even moisture. Crops of course take off better in the disked area, but, in the long run don't seem to yield better | |
