I would only keep your 12 if they fit your vision, if only 8 or 10 fit with these prices that is all I would keep. According to the suits these prices should kind of hold for a year or two so sooner or later if they are right you will be keeping "expensive" replacements. Our herd is 20 years old so a bit ahead of you, I usually keep 12 a year because just like you it fits my pasture and a young bull. We tend to be within 5-10 cents of the top with a fair portion of the calves, if not top one class or another once in awhile. This year I was very heavy to bulls and not real impressed with some of the heifers so I kept 10, also bought one from a guy I bought a young bull from. I really like her, she was the wrong color for him and he was not going to keep her so I bought her. , I may not spend enough for bulls, but we are profitable and making progress towards what I believe will be a low maintenance low input herd.
