Keep fixing what you have. You could make a newer head fit your 4400 if the 40 series is too far gone to rebuild. Also not sure that old Claas had chopping head as a factory option, and if it didnt the driveline likely wasnt built for it.
If you want the stalks chopped buy a 15' pull behind flail chopper.
