WC MN | Some of the best farmers in our area are 5-10k acres so I don't hold any beliefs that you can't be a big farm and do a good job.
The rest, I'm not sure what your point is. When it comes to 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation, it damn well makes a difference what your previous generations have done and how that will impact what you have the opportunity to do. That does not mean the next generation can not add value or move forward, it just has an affect on how that is and can be done and the amount of effort it will take.
